みなさん、お久しぶりです。翔子です。^^

上の写真は　先日、劇の受付係（usher）をしたときに渡された説明書きの余白部分に書かれていた　私の名前です。

"Shoku Tokamaru"　・・・なんか違う！

What this adorable princess is doing? さてさて。ここからが今回のブログの本題です。

この とっても可愛いお姫さまは、一体　何をしにやってきたのでしょうか。　

正解は もちろん

TRICK OR TREAT!!!

Halloweenのお菓子を

ねだりに来ていたんですね～

 寮に住む学生が 来客一人ひとりに、お菓子を手渡しでおもてなし。:)

今日の為に、みんなでコツコツ　飾りつけを頑張ってきたんだそうです。

なぜならば、子どもたちの笑顔を見たいから！

ちなみに、フロア毎に "Horror"や"Princess"といった、テーマがあったそうです。。

"? Woman"

大人でも、張り切る人は　張り切るみたいです。

Today, "TRICK OR TREAT" event was held at 2 kinds of dormitories, Banks & Wordom, which a lot of freshmen lives in because Halloween was coming. When I was having lunch with some Chinese friends, they informed about it to me. For this event, a lot of children visited there. I really felt then, "Oh, it's real American Halloween...!!!"

 

 

 

今日は、来たるHalloweenにちなんで、少し早めの　TRICK OR TREATイベントが、BanksとWorthamという2つの寮で 催されていました。

個性溢れる 仮装姿のこどもたちが、黄色い声で　"TRICK OR TREAT!!!" と言って、お菓子を貰いに　続々と寮を訪れる様子を目の当たりにして、「これが本場・AmericaのHalloweenなんだな～」と、実感しました。

BanksとWorthernは、主にfreshman（新入生）が入居している寮なので、Hightowerという 上級生向けの寮に住む私にとって、freshmanの友だちと一緒のときにしか立ち入ることのできない 希少な場所です。

Lunchを一緒に食べたChineseの友人たちから、運よく「今日の20時頃から、私たちの寮全体で、TRICK OR TREATのために子どもたちが遊びに来るんだよ。」という話を聞きつけた私は、Dinnerを一緒に食べたBanksの住人の友人に頼んで寮に入れて貰い、今か今か！と、その瞬間を体験するべく、応接間のようなところで待機していた訳なのですが・・・

Finally, they came!!!

After I enjoyed TRICK OR TREAT, I went to my friend's room to see her prayer, "Salat" but there was so noisy because Banks girls were so excited for TRICK OR TREAT with adorable children outside of her room though.

She was praying "Salat" seriously because it was the last (5th) one in a day, it had more special meanings and needed longer time than other times.
She was praying for her God, "Allah", but at the same time, Banks girls were screaming "Jesus!!!" because they got too excited.

 

 

OH MY GOD　・　・　・　！！！　lol

 

ひと通り TRICK OR TREATを満喫した後は、Bangladesh出身の友人の、本日ラスト（５回目）のSalat（お祈り）を見せて貰いに 彼女のお部屋を訪れたのですが、・・・部屋のすぐ外では、Banks 3^rd Floorの飾り付けのテーマ・”Disney Princess”にちなんで、Disney Princessの音楽が大音量で流され、テンションMAXになったBanks girlsが “Jesus!!!”などと叫ぶ始末。


彼女がイスラム教の唯一神・Allahにお祈りしているその傍で、---　"Jesus！！！"
慌てます。

 

と、笑い話になった一幕も。
１日の最後のSalatは、１日の締めくくりということもあり　特別な意味があるようで、２回に分けてお祈りしたり、時間も通常より長かったりして、何とも言えない心境になりました。

 

After she finished Slat, we read very small part of "Quran" in English. It was the first time for me to read Quran in my life. When I opened Quran randomly, there were interesting sayings, "Men should ・・・" and "Women should ・・・". The amount seemed like 1:3, about men and women. My impression about those sayings was "Is Islam strict to women?". By the way, she is always wearing Jilbāb "because of the religious reason". Honestly, I did not understand "what was religious reason" and was just thinking like "It seems hot in summer but in winter, it seems comfortable." and "There are various kinds of Jilbāb and they are fashionable!".   

I thought I wanted to ask about women in Islam to her as a Muslim woman and actually I did so. She was saying, "In Islam, women are too beautiful and attractive for men. We shouldn't show our vulnerabilities. We all women are so precious. That's why we should  keep chastity in safe and protect by ourselves. That's what Allah is saying in Quran." Her sayings were very new and impressive for me.


 

After I left her room, I searched various of things which related to "Islam", "women" and "Bangladesh" by myself  to understand her background and new world for me. And finally, I could understand that Bangladesh is the country which has the culture treats women very preciously.


 

「これが本物のコーランだよ。」と言って、彼女はSalatの前に　英語のコーランを手渡してくれました。Salatの後、なんとなく開いたページにあったのは、「男性は・・・」「女性は・・・」という記述。一見、双方の記述量には1:3くらいの差があって、ざっくりとだけ内容を読んだ私は、「イスラム教は、女性に厳しいのかな？」と思いました。また、彼女が言うには「宗教的な理由で」、渡米以後、毎日ヒジャブ(Jilbāb)を被っているそうなのですが、私には　どうしてムスリムの女性はヒジャブで頭を覆って隠すのか、正直　よくわかっていませんでした。だからいつも、「夏は　暑く、冬は　暖かそうだな」「色んな種類があって、なんだか　お洒落だな♪」くらいに思っていました。

 

「１人のムスリムの女性としての、友人の意見を聞いてみたい」と思った私は、「イスラム教は　女性に厳しいの？女性は弱者なの？」と彼女に尋ねたところ、答えは「No!」でした。即答でした。

彼女曰く、「イスラム教の中で　女性とは、とても美しくて魅力的で、大切な存在。放っておいたら、どんな目に遭うかわからない。だから、神・Allahは、女性のchastity（貞操）を守り、安全な状態を保つよう、コーランの中で説いている」のだそうです。

 

あとで自分で調べて知ったのですが、同じイスラム教でも、国によって価値観や考え方が大きく異なるようです。Bangladeshという国の文化が、「女性を大切に扱う」文化のようです。
 

                                    

話は、ある種のuniversal　problemに派生。とにかく　話し出したら止まりません！


What I think after I came to study in this college is that all friends who teach me various kinds of new world, new value and new way of thinking are precious and respectful for me.


留学して思うのは、彼女だけに限らず、色んな新しい世界や考え方を教えてくれる友人は皆、尊く貴重な存在だということです。


I'm going to keep in touch with various kinds of people and know new things during studying in the US.


これからも引き続き、今回の留学を通して、色んなタイプの人と関わって　たくさんの新しい発見をしていけたら、と思います。
