Origami Workshop!!

On Tuesday, we had an Origami Workshop in the Wesleyan College.

It was arranged by a student, and we were invited since we are from Japan.

There were some students and the school's stuff's family.
We taught some Origami, and enjoyed very much!!

今週の火曜日に大学で折り紙ワークショップが行なわれました。
このイベントは学生によって企画運営されたもので、私たちは日本出身ということで教える立場として参加しました。
学生と大学のスタッフの家族の方も来られていて、みんなで楽しむことが出来ました！

All the participants were so happy and excited after they could created Origami!!

One of the participants asked me when I started to create Origami. Many of the Japanese learn to make Origami when we were in kindergarten. We do it for an enjoyment and also as one of the culture. She said to me that it can be a good education to learn patience for children.

参加してくれた方皆さん、折り紙を作れた後はとても嬉しそうでした！！

参加者の方に「いつ頃から折り紙を始めたのか」と聞かれました。多くの日本人は幼稚園に入園した頃から折り紙に触れ、遊びの一環として楽しみ、また日本の文化として学びます。 質問してくれた方は「子どもにとっては忍耐を学ぶのにとてもいいですね」とおっしゃっていました。

こんなに小さな女の子も参加してくれ、とても喜んでくれました！

後から聞く話によると、次の日、幼稚園で自慢してくれたそうです♪

After the work shop! 

We created many Origami and enjoyed a lot!!

Through the event, I thought that Japan has really unique cultures, and many people from other countries are really interested in them. I think it can be said for all the culture from any countries. 

These days, I feel that many Japanese people want to learn about other countries with yearning to them, even though they do not have enough knowledge about their own country. However, to learn other cultures and other countries, it is necessary to know about our own culture, history and people. 

今回のイベントを通して、日本は本当に独特な文化を持っており、他国の人からとても興味を持ってもらえるんだと改めて感じました。これは日本の文化だけでなく他国の文化にも共通して言えることだと思います。
今日、日本人の中には自国の文化について十分な知識を持たないまま、他国に憧れ学びたいと思っている人が多くいるように感じます。しかし、他の文化や他国について学ぶためには自国の文化や歴史、人々について知ることは必要不可欠です。

In this globalized world, we need to keep our identity. I thought the importance of my own culture and identity again through this enjoyable time. I will study more about Japan!! :)

グローバル化が謳われる中でこそ、アイデンティティを持ち続けなければならないのではないでしょうか。楽しい時間を通して、自国の文化と自分のアイデンティティの大切さを改めて感じました。日本についてもっと勉強します!! :)

International Dinner

Hello! This is Mayu!!

Yesterday(November 2nd), we had a International Dinner, which was organized by the club of International students at the Wesleyan College. Since we are joining the club, we participated in the event and made two Japanese dishes, which are Nikujyaga and tamagoyaki.

There were so many dishes from many countries, and they tasted really well!! It was a great dinner and we could enjoy so much!!

昨日、11月3日にWesleyan CollegeでInternational Dinnerという留学生のクラブ主催のイベントが行なわれました。私たちもそのクラブに入っているので今回のイベントに参加し、肉じゃがと卵焼きをつくりました。

世界各国からの留学生がそれぞれの国の料理を作っており、色んな国の味を楽しむことが出来ました。どれもとても美味しくて最高のディナーでした！

It was more than our expectation, so we were surprised!!

このイベントには、地域の方、教授、学生を含めたくさんの方が来られていました！！予想を遥かに超える人の多さに驚きました！！

There were some performances from the International Students. We did a Japanese cultural performance too!!

このイベントでは、料理だけでなく、留学生によるパフォーマンスを行なわれました！私たちも日本文化のパフォーマンスを行ないました！！

We performed Bon-Dance, which is Japanese dance at the dinner time. Many people joined us and it was so fun!! I was really happy that we could do it!!

Stone Mountain!!

Hello! This is Mayu.

Since some of us went to Stone Mountain in Atlanta last weekend, I want to introduce about it! Stone Mountain is one of the famous places in Georgia.

先週末にアトランタで有名な場所の一つであるStone Mountainという場所に行ってきました！

Yoshie, Mizuki and I went there!! It was the event for International Students in Georgia state. So, we could meet many students from all over the world in this trip.  Of course we met some other students from Japan!!
Before climbing the Stone Mountain, we gathered in the picnic space, and had a lunch together!! The lunch was provided by the regional church and it was really good. Since it hardly happen in Japan, I was surprised and I could touch one of the aspects of the American culture with religion.

良枝と瑞季と私が今回のイベントに参加しました。この企画はジョージア州の大学に通っているインターナショナルスチューデントの為のもので、世界中からの学生が集まっていました。もちろん、他大学に留学中の日本人学生とも会い、話をしました！
Stone Mountainに登る前にピクニックをするための広場に全員が集まり、お昼ご飯をみんなで食べました！昼食はすべて地元の教会から提供されたものでとても美味しかったです！教会から食べ物を提供してもらうということは日本では出会ったことが無かったので驚きました。アメリカの宗教的文化の一部に触れることが出来ました。

After lunch, we moved to the Stone Mountain, and climbed! It was not so hard, but not so easy, and it could be great exercise for me.

昼食の後、いよいよStone Mountainに登ります！そんなに大変な山登りではありませんが、すごく楽！という訳でもなく、良い運動になりました。

After come down a mountain, we moved to a Stone Mountain Theme Park to see the laser show, which started from 8:00pm!! It was so beautiful and I loved it so much!!

山を降りたあと、私たちはStone Mountain Theme Parkという所に移動し、夜８時からのレーザーショーを見ました！とても奇麗で迫力のあるショーでした！！

Class Soccer, Team Green Knights !

Here, Macon welcomed fall and ginkgo trees show us the beautiful yellow leaves in Wesleyan College.

Time flies, one season is now over since we've arrived in here.

Hi, for a while, I didn't take the role to write this blog but now, me and Alice is back (:

大学内の銀杏の木が綺麗な紅葉を見せてくれる季節になりました。

Wesleyan Collegeではすっかり秋らしい季節になりました。

夏にこちらへ到着して以来、時間が過ぎるのはとても早いです。

少しばかりご無沙汰していたAliceこと有彩ですが、またここに記事を書くことができ、嬉しいです (:

Even summer is over, we still have a lot of fun events in college.

Of course, no body forgets fall is for Halloween season though we'll be able to have fun with another events as well.

One of these events, class soccer, me, Mollie and Yoshie are now joining it as the members of Green Knights (Sophomore team) for the games!

夏が過ぎても、大学内はイベントや行事で賑わっています。

もちろん、ハロウィーンのイベントも盛りだくさんですが、芸術の秋、食欲の秋、何でもありな秋なだけにハロウィーン意外のイベントも体験できます。

その中の一つ、学年対抗別のサッカーの試合にMollie、良枝、私がGreen Knights（二年生のチーム）として出場することになりました！

Today is the first day for the game, Pirates (Freshman) vs Green Knights (our awesome team ( ´▽` )   ).
Mostly, we all gathered with our interests then our careers of soccer is various.
Like me, I have no experiences for soccer but some of them have careers like Mollie.
(Yes, we shouldn't forget she is also a member of HJU soccer team!)

アメリカ時間の今日の放課後が初試合で、Pirates（一年生）vs　Green Knights（二年生、我がチーム( ´▽` )  ）の対戦です。
チームメイト全員がそれぞれ異なる経験値であっても、しっかりみんなが楽しめればよしというとても参加しやすい雰囲気で、毎回の練習も楽しみです (:
ちなみに私は全くサッカーしたことはありませんが、Mollieは女学院のサッカーチームに所属しています。
（私たちの帰国後もMollieと女学院サッカーの応援、忘れないでくださいね 笑）

ちなみに、フロア毎に "Horror"や"Princess"といった、テーマがあったそうです。。

Today, "TRICK OR TREAT" event was held at 2 kinds of dormitories, Banks & Wordom, which a lot of freshmen lives in because Halloween was coming. When I was having lunch with some Chinese friends, they informed about it to me. For this event, a lot of children visited there. I really felt then, "Oh, it's real American Halloween...!!!"

 

 

 

今日は、来たるHalloweenにちなんで、少し早めの　TRICK OR TREATイベントが、BanksとWorthamという2つの寮で 催されていました。

個性溢れる 仮装姿のこどもたちが、黄色い声で　"TRICK OR TREAT!!!" と言って、お菓子を貰いに　続々と寮を訪れる様子を目の当たりにして、「これが本場・AmericaのHalloweenなんだな～」と、実感しました。

BanksとWorthernは、主にfreshman（新入生）が入居している寮なので、Hightowerという 上級生向けの寮に住む私にとって、freshmanの友だちと一緒のときにしか立ち入ることのできない 希少な場所です。

Lunchを一緒に食べたChineseの友人たちから、運よく「今日の20時頃から、私たちの寮全体で、TRICK OR TREATのために子どもたちが遊びに来るんだよ。」という話を聞きつけた私は、Dinnerを一緒に食べたBanksの住人の友人に頼んで寮に入れて貰い、今か今か！と、その瞬間を体験するべく、応接間のようなところで待機していた訳なのですが・・・

Halloween is Coming!!

Hello! This is Mayu.

In America, we have a big event on October. It is Halloween!
We can feel some atmosphere of Halloween and getting some experiences of it these days!!

こんにちは。Mayuです。
アメリカでは、10月に大きなイベント、ハロウィンがあります。
まだ当日ではないのですが、このイベントの大きさを既に感じ始めています！

Pumpkin Curving

In a super market, we can get pumpkins for Halloween. We curve it and use it as a decollation! 

スーパーマーケットに行くと、ハロウィンのための大きなカボチャがたくさん売られています。とっても小さいものもあるんです♪中をくり抜いて、彫刻を施してハロウィンの飾りを作ります！

Yesterday, I did it with my Equestrian team members! In Japan, many of us think that it is only Jack-o-Lantern, but there are so many other designs. Halloween is much much bigger event in America, compare to Japan, and it is really popular!!

昨日、私は馬術部のみんなと挑戦しました。日本ではあまりなじみが無いイベントですが、アメリカではとっても人気のイベントの一つで友達は「ハロウィンが一番好き！」と言っていました。日本で知られているジャックオランタンという顔を彫刻したものだけでなく、いろいろなデザイン画があります。

Halloween is the biggest festival while we are staying at this college! It is great that we can experience different culture, and we can enjoy it so much!! I can feel and understand some cultural differences between America and Japan. Knowing them is really interesting!!

It is one week before the day! I am excited for October 31st!!

ハロウィンが私たちがこの大学に滞在する間のもっとも大きなお祭りです。日本と違い、ハロウィンがアメリカでどれだけ大きなイベントで、どれだけ人々が楽しみにしているかをとても感じています。こういった多文化に触れることが出来るというのも留学の大きな魅力であり、楽しみでもあります。アメリカの友達と一緒にカボチャを削りながら「日本ではハロウィンは大きなイベントではない」といったような話もしながら楽しむことが出来ました。

１０月３１日まであと約１週間！当日が楽しみです♪

the church service by Jimmy Carter

Hi!! I'm Mizuki :)


I had a chance to  go to Maranatha Baptist Church. Jimmy Carter still sometimes teach a Sunday School in there. Anyone can attend it.
Therefore, I could meet former president Jimmy Carter and attend church service :)!!! A lot of people came from some states like Alabama, Los Angels and Chicago.
He taught us about Abraham. When Abraham made a mistake, he believed God from the bottom of his heart and, he followed what God said. That is the key point for him. Jimmy Carter did a same thing. He said that "I'm not a perfect man, but I believe God, and I follow what God said". That leads him.
After I attended a normal church service, I could take a picture with him. Actually, I could not talk with him directly, but that was a good time for me.

元大統領 Jimmy Carterさんが今でも日曜礼拝を行っている教会に行く機会がありました！誰でも参加することが出来るのですが、その日もいろいろな州からたくさんの人がJimmy Carterさんの説教を聞きに来てました。その日のお話はアブラハムについてでした！アブラハムは過ちをおかし民から疎外された時、神を心の底から信じ、神の言葉に従ってきました。神を信じ、従うことが彼を良い方へ導きました。Jimmy Carterさんは、「私は完璧な人間でない。しかし、神を信じ、神の言葉に従っている。」とおっしゃいまいました！彼が行ってきた様々な行為の原点はそこにあるんだと思います :)
その後通常の礼拝にも参加し、最後にJimmy Carterさんと奥さんと一緒に写真を撮っていただくことができました♡

I learned the history of Jimmy Carter. I went to Plains High School, Boyhood Farm and Andersonville.

Jimmy Carter was graduated from Plains High School and now, that became a museum about Jimmy Carter. He made an effort to make a peaceful world. He often visited a lot of country during he was a president and after that, for example, he went to Africa to help poor people from health problems. I'm proud of him and his act.

Jimmy Carterさんの歴史や活動を知るため、Plains High SchoolやBoyhood Farm、Adersonville に行ってきました。

Plains High SchoolはJimmy Carterさんが卒業した高校で今では資料館となっています。アフリカの貧困地域における健康問題を解決するなど、彼が平和な世界を構築するために行った活動や多くの国を訪れたことが記されていました。彼は大統領である間はもちろん、それ以降も積極的に活動を行われていたそうです。

Oh! There is a replica of White house. Do I look like a president? lol

Jimmy Carter grew up at Boyhood Farm. There was the house he grew up, the farm and the store which was used. There are chickens, a dog and a cat. We were so lucky, because we could eat boiled peanuts :) That was awesome.
In Plains, a peanut is very famous and symbol. Peanuts festival is held every year.

Jimmy Carterさんが育ったBoyhood Farmでは、たまたまピーナッツを作っていたので、いただくことが出来ました♩とてもおいしかったです♩ここではピーナッツが有名でシンボルとされています。毎年ピーナッツフェスティバルが開かれるそうです !!

This trip was a so great experience for me. In my opinion, to believe God is to believe myself. That may be the key point of our life.

とても貴重な体験ができたことをとても嬉しく思います！！！

神を信じるというのは自分自身を信じるという意味にもとれるのではないでしょうか？ :)
